Creating the Bassett Museum for Yesteryear Cars & their Drivers
by Henry Cares | Dec 10, 2021
Henry Cares is aggressively exploring the merits and means by which to create a museum featuring in Bassett an array of automobiles in a building yet to be selected
The intent is to recognize the rich legacy in Henry County for fast cars and for their drivers – cars so fast that they inspired the creation of the Martinsville Speedway, the first NASCAR racetrack.
Apart from displaying handsome automobiles, the museum aspires to recognize their drivers, especially the bootleggers whose agile cars often but not always eluded the police when transporting illegal moonshine
Preliminary discussions with various groups, including those who own venerable automobiles restored to new; with Patrick & Henry Community College and with local donor organizations, have expressed interest and preliminary support for this unique museum.
